Best Restaurants -(Lunch)
Bangkok Kitchen
(Restaurants - Lunch)
2534 SE BelmontPortland OR 97214-2823 503-813-0000
Description:
The decor isn't hip or contemporary, but the Thai food is so authentic that it makes allowances for the nondescript interior. The incredible cuisine is also the reason that the place is so busy, frequented by loyal regulars and a crowd that includes everyone from older folks to young couples with kids. The informal atmosphere and the congenial servers only make the experience that much more enjoyable. Spring rolls are well done, as is the classic pad thai, and the hot-and-sour chicken soup is a taste sensation. You'll also be pleased by the curries and the selection of noodle dishes. Food has a characteristic spiciness, although you can tame it if you choose. The peanut sauce is sublime.
Besaw's Cafe
(Restaurants - Lunch)
2301 NW Savier StPortland OR 97210-2513 503-228-2619
Description:
Comfortable and easygoing, this neighborhood cafe makes for a great destination any time of day. Even so, it's well-known for its breakfast fare, and you may wait in line for the privilege of sampling the eggs Benedict. A wealth of great options makes sure any diner is pleased, and you can't go wrong with a plate of airy pancakes or a plentiful helping of scrambled eggs, studded with luscious morsels of whatever's fresh that day. Regular specials also make good alternatives. Located near NW 23rd Avenue, Besaw's simply offers good food in a great atmosphere.
Bijou Cafe
(Restaurants - Lunch)
132 SW 3rd AvePortland OR 97204 503-222-3187
Description:
Bijou Cafe, the eatery of choice for Portland's power brokers, serves creative American cuisine that's whipped up using fresh, local ingredients. During breakfast, corn-flour pancakes are served with a side of oyster or snapper hash, and the super health-conscious can even get a bowl of steamed brown rice. Lunchtime offers up a roster of soups, salads and special entrees.Organic products are frequently incorporated, and you can also find tofu dishes. As is typical with popular eateries, Bijou can get crowded at times and could demand a wait.
Bluehour
(Restaurants - Lunch)
250 NW 13th AvePortland OR 97209 503-226-3394
Description:
Perhaps Portland's most exclusive restaurant, the hip, sleek Bluehour caters to an upscale set with its scintillating cuisine and clean-lined, lush decor. The Northwestern fare takes cues from the Mediterranean, always using, of course, the best ingredients produced in the region. Starters include seared scallops, beef carpaccio, poached oysters and grilled quail. Main courses, from a menu that changes daily, could feature venison medallions, fresh pasta laced with herbs, horseradish-crusted salmon and a risotto flavored on the kitchen's whim. Desserts are executed by an in-house pastry chef and feature innovative takes on chocolate pudding, creme brulee and cake and ice cream. A well-received bar draws the nightlife crowd.
Bread and Ink Cafe
(Restaurants - Lunch)
3610 SE Hawthorne BlvdPortland OR 97214-5144 503-239-4756
Description:
This neighborhood establishment is a favorite with the local crowd. The interior is somewhat nondescript, but great food takes your focus elsewhere. Breakfast, available daily, is a good way to start the morning. Fresh, hot coffee goes well with the brioche, but you'll also be tempted by the smoked chicken omelet, fluffy pancakes, and scrambled egg dishes. On Sundays, the three-course Yiddish brunch is an eastern European tradition that will leave you happily incapacitated for the rest of the day! Large windows allow you to people-watch while you dine, and the restaurant is comfortable if you're eating alone.
